What does the word, “friend” mean to you?
Social media is popular and used throughout America. Have connections with others declined? As a 38-year-old, that came from places where connections were thriving in early social platforms…. This poses the question! I noticed lots of decline.

In today’s generation, the word “friend” begin to have different meanings. And, of course it would have different meanings, because everyone desires different things when it comes to seeking friendship.
To clarify, these days you can call someone your friend, and it is just someone you chat with online. It’s like attending, a room to chit chat, and then log off.
For someone like me that desires a deeper connection, that is not a friend to me, more like an acquaintance. And while, I believe there is nothing wrong with having acquaintances, there are some people whom friendships are fulfilled in just a casual manner. A “hi” and “bye” situation.
This is all depressing.
Because at the end of the day, we are micro-posting, and micro sharing parts of ourselves. I miss the days where we can exchange phone numbers, and talk offline, it felt so personal.
But this is the era of micro sharing, and posting hoping someone will throw us a bone, and interact with us. I am very cynical in how I write this, because I am here to share my two years in my findings when spending my time online. Ever since I worked from home, I have been online more.
We all use social media to share, and the algorithm will slide your content under the rug. Where the numerous of advertisements will take place of. There is also that con, of trying to share things online in terms of our own social platforms.
As someone suggested to me, I think its all about where I am sharing, and where I am trying to make connections. While some places are a general good place to start, it also may not be the best place. Got to expand your horizons and see where your fellow type of people is.
